Housing Proposals Advance at NAVWAR and Midway as San Diego Home Sales Slow
Developers are pitching housing and a 400MW data center at the former Navy cyber site while other residential projects and ballot measures move forward across San Diego.
Development proposals and financing deals are moving forward in San Diego even as home sales slow across San Diego County and statewide, according to reporting from KPBS. At an old Navy cyber site in San Diego, California, a 400MW data center is being eyed, Data Center Dynamics reported. Construction Review reported that Manchester Financial Group pitched the 400MW data center project for the former Navy site. Alongside those plans, Voice of San Diego reported that the Manchester Group promised housing at NAVWAR, stating that housing will be a "major part" of the NAVWAR development.
Several other residential and development projects are also advancing in the city. According to 10News.com, San Diego's Midway Rising project cleared a key hurdle and is advancing to a full City Council vote this fall. Elsewhere in the local housing market, Multifamily Housing News reported in an exclusive that Vintage Housing bought a foreclosed San Diego tower. Additionally, Connect CRE reported that purpose-built student housing near SDSU now has financing in place.
Reports also examined housing along the San Diego coast, including in La Jolla and Pacific Beach. Hoodline reported that a report says schools in La Jolla and Pacific Beach, along with clean air, argue for more housing. In separate coverage, Axios reported that San Diego coastal housing is about more than views.
At the same time, local service providers and upcoming ballot measures are addressing homelessness and affordable housing in the region. For San Diego's homeless population, Father Joe's Villages opened a new Day Center, cbs8.com reported. Voters will also decide on housing funding soon. Times of San Diego reported that there is a $11.25 billion housing bond on the ballot this November, and the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that Prop. 1 would help address affordable housing needs in the region.
